How Ion-Exchange Softening Works
Protector Plus™ uses traditional ion-exchange softening: as hard water passes through a tank of resin beads, calcium and magnesium ions are physically exchanged for sodium ions, leaving your water completely free of the minerals that cause scale buildup and that "hard" feeling on skin and hair.
What sets Protector Plus™ apart is the dedicated carbon pre-filter tank installed ahead of the softening resin. It strips chlorine, chloramines, and other chemical byproducts from your water before softening even happens — protecting the resin bed itself and extending its usable life, while delivering noticeably smoother water throughout your home.
